Fashion Festivities.

So, for a look at fashion a little closer to home. This week is NZs Fashion Festival. Basically this is a chance for the general public to mix and mingle with the fashion elite and take a seat on all of New Zealand’s favourite designers shows.

I wish I could make it, but with my trip to Europe a mere 4 days away I am not able to get away from work! Poo.

But for those of you who can, do. It is a great way to see what is going on this season and is an even better way to support New Zealand Fashion, giving amazing up and coming designers the ability to show us what they got.

Also, a repeat of the famous Designer Garage sale with heaps of market down goodies on Saturday 26th

NYFW Rundown.

Now I have let that simmer for a wee bit… a run down on what I have missed this passed month of bad bogging on the terms of Fashion news, from our doorstep and around the world.

Probably the biggest thing going on has been the plethora of Fashion weeks from around the globe. So here are my favourite designers from New York’s fall 2011 Fashion week.

Karen Walker

Although this collection seems quite safe and typical of Karen, I do love her style. The accent of the floral print is different from her usual two-tone geometric style and adds a nice softness to all the overpowering male cuts.

Alice + Olivia

I would simply wear all of these. Young, fun vibrant and gorgeous. The perfect look for the up and coming cold months.

3.1 Phillip Lim

Simple, but beautifully cut, featuring the colour for the season… camel and yellow had a baby.

Steven Alan

Preppy chic at its best. The most practical way to stay warm and look amazing. Grey stockings are the best accessories for the winter months.

Now to let you in on a little of the fashion in my life….

I am on a major countdown to a month long getaway to Europe! We leave end of this for three weeks in London and one week in Paris. My bank balance has been in dire saving mode. But, never fear I have found many fashion treats for steals (not a single one cost more than $80)….

Lipstick - Topshop

Leopard Tie top - Topshop, Oriental top - Glassons

Blue bag - Glassons

Necklace - Diva

Pink Blazer - Glassons, Leopard Trousers - Supre, Trench Coat - Kmart
(yes, Kmart, worth a mere $32 and seriously great great buy)

You go Girlfirend.

So, on a lighter note, I ask you my blog friends… Do you ever have so much to do; yet you sit there and do none of it? Just to see quite how high that pile will grow before there is no option. Either, cut and run – starting up a new life in a far away land, preferably somewhere hot and isolated. Or, the option I usually begrudgingly go for, doing what ever it is you have been putting off.

Well, as you can tell, this blog has been one of those things for me recently. I have accumulated SO many amazing finds. I have been lusting after so many beautiful things, there have been so many things have been going on in fashion world that I have spent most of the last month with a wine in hand, SATC blurring in the background and the humming of stress to get everything I so want to share with you beautiful people down on paper. And failing. Clearly.

So finally I have nutted out the mother of all posts…. Or ‘blog-date’ to get you all up to date with everything.

I thought I would start this many part blog-date with a wee look at my favourite editorial of the moment.

Now I am bias – the incredible stylist is a colleague and friend of mine… but NZ most read teen mag Girlfriend has outdone itself this month. With a fashion editorial that seems to fuzz the age gap (although maybe I just have a thing for teen clothes)… and really does capture the key seasons styles coming up.

Take a look and tell me this… Do you remember your teen read of choice at the tender age of 15 being quite so …well… beautiful?

No? Exactly… kudos to the wonderful Miss Lucy Slight. Mad Skills. It is on sale now by the way and I think it’s a great (and often overlooked) fashion tap… def grab a copy to see the full shoot!

Let me start this by taking a minute to reflect.

As you will all have heard, there was a devastating earthquake in Christchurch last week. It really has rocked the nation and left us all a little stunned, a lot devastated and lost for words. I am British born, and have only lived in New Zealand for the last ten years of my life – having said this, I am a kiwi through and through and the news of this earthquake really made me realise how much this incredible country, full of beautiful people means to me. I send every bit of love and support in my body to those affected. Those who have lost their houses, possessions, loved ones and faith. Know that all of New Zealand (and lots of the world) is behind you.

Oh, by the way...

Just a note to let you lovely people know, two of my all time favourite places are having sales this weekend. Unfortunately I am way too poor to take advantage of this, but that just leaves more for you!

So, if your in Auckland, grab your wallets, your fighting spirit and split your day between 'The Department Store' in Takapuna and Juliette Hogan's Ponsonby Road shop.

I will be disappointed if you come away empty handed.

Now go forth and shop!

News stand update.

Vogue Uk’s February 2011 cover has hit the stands and I really like it. It features Mrs Beckham looking lovely and was photographed by Alasdair McLellan. I am not usually a huge fan of Victoria Beckham covers. Don’t get me wrong I think of all the celebri-spawn turned fashion designers she has actually proved herself. But she always looks so… so… angry.

This time however, she has thrown out her usual hard edge - frown riddled face for a happy(ish) look. I think the cover looks so wonderfully soft, natural and warm with just the right amount of 90s charm (a prominent style being used in covers and editorials at the moment).

The shoot itself seems to continue this soft charm, although I have only seen a tiny snippet it of it. When I get my hands on it in full I will post it for you to enjoy.
